Have you noticed anything different in the Walloon Lake village this year? Thanks to funding from the Melrose Township Downtown Development Authority, summer improvements are underway. Utility lines on Winsor Street, running from the boat launch to the M-75 intersection, and then from the west side of M-75 to the marina will be buried and utility poles removed. This project enhances Village aesthetics and improves boat launch and driving safety. In years past the DDA has replaced the roof on the Township Park’s bathhouse and provided leadership on Village signage, parking and lighting. Take a moment and look around the Village, progress is underway.
The Melrose Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was established in 2004. The DDA stretches from Bear River to the Walloon Lake Inn to Ingalls Country Store. The Melrose Township Downtown Development Authority (DDA) encourages economic growth, historic preservation and revitalization of the local downtown district by implementing development plans and strategies to prevent deterioration and promote economic growth within a business district by developing, adopting, and implementing development plans. There is no cost to the taxpayer.
On June 10, 2008 the Melrose Township Board of Trustees approved By-Laws to govern DDA operations. On March 13, 2013 these bylaws were amended to increase, from one to two, the maximum number of out-of-district members and decrease total members from thirteen to nine.
